Today in 1812 Napoleon, Emperor Napoleon, arrived in a deserted and mostly destroyed Moscow. This highly intelligent person was forced to realise that attacking Russia had not been such a good idea. I fantasise that he stuck his left hand into his waistcoat saying, “I feel a right tit.”
To think that what brought him into power began as a revolution against the ‘Ancien Regime’. All became citizens. Equality was an ideal. But Madame Guillotine did not only give her attention to the aristos, she also removed the heads of citizens who disagreed with each other.
Then came Bonaparte who gave not only France but also conquered countries a civil code that became a foundation for efficient public administration. Unfortunately, that included driving on the wrong side of the road.
Revolution? Settle down and learn to behave!
But he was so good at this war stuff that he could not stop having battles. Rocky Marciano retired before he lost any fights. Napoleon did not have that wisdom.
I can understand defensive war, but offensive? Is that always clever?
Today the profit-making Military Industrial Complex of the USA is promoting war in Ukraine. Our government and our media constantly tell us that this is a defensive war. Is it?
You can get a degree in War Studies.
How many of our powerful politicians, in any country, have such a degree? My guess is NONE!
Time to listen to Tchaikovsky’s overture.
Or should we all buy shares in the War Industry?
If we do, to quote Tom Lehrer, we shall all be loaded when we go.
