The UK government has imposed sanctions against UK citizen Graham Phillips for covering the situation in Donbass, Eastern Ukraine. His assets and his home in Nottinghamshire have also been seized.
All this has happened as the video journalist is away from the country working in Eastern Ukraine.
An open supporter of Russia’s action in Ukraine, though he says his reportage is independent, he has not been charged with any crime or asked to appear before a judge but has been added to the official sanctions list.
He said: “I didn’t have any opportunity to defend myself, no one notified me, there are no real charges against me.
“Anyone can like or not like my work, that is personal choice, that is freedom of speech, but please can someone explain to me how a British person can be put on a British sanctions list without any opportunity to defend himself, or any actual charges against him, just because the UK Government don’t like his work?
“I note the persecution of the UK Government, and continue my work.”
It is worth remembering that the UK is NOT at war with Russia, something Tory Foreign Secretary Liz Truss appears to forget.
