Here’s an interesting idea.. allow people to do what they want as a job!.. for life.. give everyone a basic level of living to remove &can earn above it if you choose.
Just think – People have no problem paying a million GBP per year to house a prisoner. But they’re very resistant to pay twenty thousand to keep someone from committing crimes in the first place.
Universal basic income, or UBI, is the idea of giving a fixed amount of money to every citizen, unconditionally.
Many suggest it could support the creation process for all, it could help musicians through periods of illness, allow people to start small scale businesses, and work with other key welfare support to create a level playing field for all.
Won’t it cost a pile
Theres interesting things for and against this policy idea, basically the idea is more people will spend cash on the highstreet.. open shops.. create new trades!.
All this economic movement feeds the government extra tax.. it creates the empisis for the economy to grow.
Unlike now where the economy is (some would say falsly) judged upon how much dirty money runs through london’s financial money laundering system.
Think about the benefit to mental health as well, without the everyday stress of payoing bill to survive in an overworked system it just gives people a bit of choice so they can say – do I really want to spend 5 days a week and work overtime.. or should I spend more time with the family or out and about myself. Whats not to like!
There could be so much to like about this policy idea and thats not all just selfish reasons.. give us the cash dash!
No take a moment to think how it would change society; the UK work environment, workers would be empowered to actually choose their jobs and careers rather then just stick with one they hate because of the need to survive.
How will it affect other benefits
If UBI is ever rolled out fully this would need to be done alongside a complete overhaul of the benefits system.
UBI would simply replace a lot of the benefits system. And thereby also remove its punitive character and an awful lot of avoidable bureaucracy. Nothing but good, eh?
Many say this is just one of the “benefits” of the idea lol.. simplify the whole system – at the moment it must be a hugely complicated kalidescope of differant payment systems.
Soo complicated it is said that many people dont actually claim all the money they could because it is just impossible to do so.
If you want to support the idea
Show some support for the Green party who are pushing for this policy idea.
In opposition to Universal Basic Income
In opposition are the usual folk wanting to stay in the status quo.
The same political people who opposed people having holiday time/pay, hated the minimum wage (which is now standard), told you having a weekend in the 1900s would destroy the economy; whereas it created its own economic boon as shops and commerce exploded on Saturdays and Sundays although in many areas until recently Sunday was a day just for religion.
Some poeple of course think it will just encourage people to do nothing with their lives – potentially within our current education system this could be true.
But if you develop the education system in ways like they have in Finland (where they are ranked No1 globally for education), they have a differant focus prefering to encourage pupils to follow their own passions rather than be force fed through a series of soul destroying exams and tests, which are there basically to test school statistics so they can be mapped in government spreadsheets.
We live should seek to create a system that inspires creatives or entrepreneurs.
