Just in case you thought Covid-19 was really over and done with, the impression Johnson and Starmer have conspired to give to justify forcing our kids back to school so parents have no excuse not to return to work, here’s the real state of affairs.
All the information is taken from the Worldometer* live website which updates the figures for 215 countries throughout the world every 24 hours which details the 10.7 million worldwide cases and half a million deaths.
As of 8.30pm Wednesday the UK has 43,906 deaths, 438 happened today. This is clearly well below America’s 130,434 deaths but taken as deaths per 1 million of population the UK is doing much worse than the US.
The UK has the 4th worst result only better than San Marino, (population 34,000) and Andorra (77,000). Belgium is doing worse than us but even they have a tiny population of little more than 11.5 million.
We are worse than the US in 9th place and even Brazil which is in 15th place which has seen 60,194 deaths so far.
Among the 66 countries still suffering Covid deaths today, of which 19 countries recorded single figures, the UK holds the 4th worst place – and it is getting so much better Johnson says!
In this particular league we are beaten by Mexico, Brazil, India, USA and Russia.
Just to round it off, how is the UK’s fantastic number of tests – not capability Hannock – going?
Let’s start with the gross figures. Not surprisingly China comes top with more than 90 million tests, but that is not so impressive considering it has a population of more nearly 1.5 billion.
The USA comes second with 34.5 million tests, followed by Russia, 20 million tests and then good old Albion with 9.7 million tests.
But how does this all work out per million of population?
Here the UK does best, of my selected group, taking 16th place, but it does not mention how many of these tests are still in the post.
Next, in 17th place Russia, then the US in 27th place and China trailing in 45th position.
