First indications (to me at least) that not all was well with Labour’s right wing NEC election campaign was on Monday morning.
Only 12 hours after breathlessly telling the red Tories who to vote for, a ‘CORRECTION’ came winging over announcing that their youth candidate “Eluned Anderson has pulled out of the election”.
No explanation. Nothing to see, move on please.
A little searching and it turned out that the evening before Eluned had tweeted her decision to drop out of the race.
The reasons she gave were her ongoing struggle with “mental illness” and “personal difficulties” and then something about apologies to “the trans and Jewish communities for the unacceptable comments I made in the past” .
What unacceptable comments were those Eluned? She does not say.
Curiouser and curiouser.
Her Twitter account opened with a notice announcing that she had removed some of the comments yet most express regret with her decision and one or two complain about bullying she has allegedly received, though she makes no mention of this.
Then, among the well-wishers there a couple of oddities. A Mr Michael Cox Tweeted: “Calling Nazis hot after Smearing Corbyn as an antisemite and framing that as doing ‘nothing wrong’ is an interesting take.”
Calling Nazis hot? Is Mr Cox tired and emotional? Eluned is a regional ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust, surely the most unlikely person to find anything attractive about Nazis
Eventually I came across this astonishing Tweet by Leftjewasian deploring a copying a comment by Eluned.
Ah! The ‘Hot for a Nazi’ case is solved.
In case you did not know Adolf Eichmann was the Nazi responsible for transporting jews to concentration camps. Hiding in Argentina after the war he was grabbed by an Israeli squad who whisked him off to Israel where he put on trial before being hanged in 1962.
Ulrich Ribbentrop, Hitler’s confident and Chancellor, was arrested at the end of the war, sent for trial at Nuremberg. He was hanged in 1946.
