Peter Lynch, 61, who was serving a two-year sentence after pleading guilty to violent disorder and abusing police, is believed to have taken his own life at HMP Moorland near Doncaster in south Yorkshire, according to reports.
Lynch received a two-year and eight-month sentence after taking part in the anti-immigration riots at a Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, Rotherham, on Aug 4.
Society should be judged by how we treat our most vulnerable: the old, the ill, the scared, those who do not quite understand how it all works and, yes, even the obnoxious. An old man has ” taken his own life in prison.” Two years for holding up a placard and shouting “scum” at the police was his crime. Suicide, when in prison, is sometimes a euphemism for something even darker. I worry that this may be an early case of ” first they came for. “
