Homeless people have been dying on our streets. The sick and vulnerable have been dying through lack of food, hope or dignity through illegal benefit cuts.
In the UK we really need an education on the welfare state and those who live with the benefit of that. We see all to often people saying or posting awful things on Social Media, calling people scum and believing these human beings deserve death; or that they deserve what they get.
But when a deadly virus comes and threatens death to us all apparently we are all one, we are all in this together.
Honestly, now we house the homeless, why, because people are afraid if we don’t the homeless will pass on the virus. We give money to people who have become unemployed, why because it affects those that normally don’t believe in benefits. We’re all in this together only when it suites.
I was just sent a video clip by a friend about how poor people exist in the USA (land of the free), and it is quite an eye opener to what we could become in the UK if the hatred and lies about poor people keep going unchallenged by the mainstream press and by the people who read it.
With a looming trade deal with the USA and a total drop out from the EU the targeting of vulnerable people who get stuck in poverty could just well be the next bogey man that the Conservative party uses to justify huge cuts to our welfare state. The fight is ours to stop that; after all Brexit was supposed to be to give us the ability to increase worker protection standards and not to drop them completely.
