We marched down Hope Street, banners waving. The flags of Palestine with the beautiful scouse twist of a Liver bird in the corner of each flag. Cliff mentioned that there were always few, if any, police mithering us. At the bottom of Bold St I saw plastic, “community” Police radio in as they noticed the placards which supported a banned peaceful protest group. I spoke to Audrey. We gave each other a brief cuddle of solidarity. Not long later she was on the floor, her glasses knocked off, surrounded by our constabulary. Bravely five of them wrestled her to the floor. The police vans were waiting. All over our country they are waiting, vicars, pensioners, teachers and gentle retired Grandparents are now enemies of the state because they held up bits of cardboard. Meanwhile the head of the Israeli Air force was an honoured guest of our Government. Something in our country has changed. We have time travelled to 1933. “First they came for the..”
