Two memories from Israel, just two for now.
One is of playing with a lovely four year old boy who could not have even tried to spell Zionism. He recently had to join the IDF and swear allegiance while holding in his hand not a holy book but….. a gun!
Another is about fifteen years ago. A young Israeli lad I had known for years who had just left the IDF sitting with his father telling me about the appalling behaviour of some troops wrecking the house of a Palestinian family.
Shitting on the furniture, such fun.
That lad’s grandparents said, “This is not the country we prayed for.”
It is, however, the country that the USA and the U.K. arm and support.
Criticise it and you will be accused of being antisemitic.
Anyone with half a grey cell knows that the word Semitic refers to a family of languages. Hitler chose to apply it to followers of a religion as though it referred to a race.
Yes, Ancient Hebrew is Semitic, but its use in the synagogue is not an indicator of race. When Catholics use a bit of Latin in church does that make them Romans?
When you are accused of being antisemitic remember that your accuser is following the example of Hitler.
Under Netanyahu Israel has allowed itself to become the Number One Enemy of Humanity.
But who arms and backs it?
