The British Government has decided that the recently made leave agreement with the EU will no longer be upheld.
The Tories insisted they would only break the agreement “in a very specific and limited way”, as Brandon Lewis stated.
Theresa May warned that the move could damage “trust” in the UK, while Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary Louise Haigh said: “This seriously undermines our authority on the international stage.”
And it actually managed to break Sir Keir Starmer’s deafening silence on Brexit.
Lord Falconer, Labour’s Shadow Attorney General, commented that the government purported to act legally throughout the Brexit process, adding: “This is new. And very bad.”

But it is not really new for Johnson and his Vote Leave crew to smash convention, bend the rules, test the constitution and even break the law – just look at where we were one year ago, arguing about the prorogation of parliament, later ruled to be unlawful.
Let’s be clear, this Conservative Party cares just as much about conserving the concentration of power with the few as any other iteration of the Tories, who have also been willing to threaten the rule of law, such as in the Windrush scandal.
The difference is that this lot have adopted a ‘rebellious’ narrative to match their actions, and that makes some parts of the establishment nervous.
The European Commission has called for an extraordinary meeting to discuss the British Governments proposals.
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said: “Very concerned about announcements from the British government on its intentions to breach the Withdrawal Agreement. This would break international law and undermines trust.”
Even the BBC Tory party pet, Laura Kuenssberg was quoted as saying, “This bill will be seen by the EU as a pretty brazen attempt to override the deal that has been done.”

The main point of this is not the intricacies and manipulations of our two biggest political parties but the rule of law itself. If the British Government can ignore their own laws then why should the rest of us uphold them?
