Police commissioners and chief constables are attacking plans set forward by the Home Secretary to have more intervention power over the police, with police leaders accusing the government of a power grab that would allow the home secretary to dictate local law matters and over rule chiefs who want to manage issues by themselves.
Hang on a minute the government is already dictating to various police forces across the UK what they should be doing. Didn’t it take Huge political outcry from opposition MPs and media figures (not to mention the voters) to get the MET police to bother tackling Downing Street for blatant lock-down infringements while the UK was locked down in their houses – clearly showing that the Government was getting away with law breaking.
Yet this might be even more step over by Government ministers who have been already proven to break the rules – with more power Priti Patel will have a finger on every issue..
No matter what the outcome an extraordinary row has broken out behind the scenes, with police bosses accusing Patel of trying to obtain these new powers without parliamentary approval.
