One time human rights barrister Keir Starmer once again inexplicably ordered every Labour MP not to vote – to abstain – on a highly contentious Tory bill to give informers and other state appointed agents a licence to kill or commit lesser crimes, scot free.
Socialists and trade unions and environmental activists are certain they will be the main target of this blank cheque to various security services, their informants and lesser state agencies with no security function.
The first time the bill came before the Commons the usual suspects defied the party Whip supported by three front bench MPs who were immediately sacked for their disobedience, then front bencher Dan Carden resigned his post and joined the rebels brining the number of rebels up to eight.
At Thursday night’s vote 34 members of the Parliamentary party’s left Socialist Campaign Group, which until now has little backbone, snubbed Starmer and voted against the Tories’ infringement on our human rights.
