TORY POLITICAL EDUCATION.
Lies and incompetence the Tories can cope with. Even untidy blond hair. “Oh, its just Boris being Boris”, they tell each other while reassuring themselves that the electorate love a good clown.
But Truss is different. She is not pretending to ‘level up’, or to build forty hospitals tomorrow, or to provide nutritious scraps to the poor and the needy. She reminds me of Norman Tebbit whose father so famously got on his bike to look for work. And on immigration she makes me think of Enoch Powell’s Rivers of Blood speech. She is not the only one of them who does that.
This Conservative Party Conference has presented delegates with the reality of its philosophy of greed. Now it cannot pretend. They do not represent
The Rich Man In His Castle
graciously giving scraps to
The Poor Man At His Gate.
Today All Things Are NOT Bright And Beautiful.
The country confronts capitalist chaos and Truss is going full speed ahead to create more of it. More of it, that is, as long as the rich become richer and the poor remain docile.
What a shock this has been to ordinary members of the Tory Party. They had no idea how much Conservative policies led to and were dependent upon an ever widening gap between the rich and the poor. And those that were aware of it had lived for years pretending to themselves that the poor were happy with this state of affairs.
For so many Party members this has been an OMG Conference. The Queen of Trickle has said to them: “Greed is what Toryism stands for and so that is what I am going to give you.”
“But”, reply Party members, “we did not want the voters to know. Can’t we pretend a bit better?”
Political education?
At last some Tories are coming to realise that not only are they not a very nice party but also that they can no longer hide this fact, especially from themselves.
