Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has admitted he made “a huge mistake” in spending time with sex offender and disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Could this close relationship with Epstein be the reason the reason why the marriage failed? After all what wife would want her Husband to be connected to a child trafficking sex maniac?
Mr Gates told CNN he had “several dinners” about a philanthropy project that did not emerge, and should not have given him “credibility”.
Epstein hanged himself in jail in 2019 while awaiting a sex-trafficking trial.
Mr Gates also discussed his divorce with Melinda French Gates, calling it “a source of great personal sadness”.
The 65 year old, who announced in March last year he was stepping down from the Microsoft board, said he and his ex-wife were “going to try and continue” working together on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Mr Gates was also asked whether he had regrets following allegations of workplace misbehaviour – some Microsoft employees have accused him of bullying.
He did not respond specifically, saying: “Certainly everyone does [have regrets] but it’s a time of reflection, and at this point, I need to go forward.”
Mr Gates’s representatives have previously played down his relationship with Epstein, saying there was no business partnership or personal friendship.
He echoed that in the CNN interview, saying: “I had several dinners with him, you know, hoping that what he said about getting billions of philanthropy for global health through contacts that he had might emerge.
“When it looked like that wasn’t a real thing, that relationship ended.”
He did not give any timeframe for the meetings, although US media have said they were between 2011 and 2014.
That was before Epstein’s arrest in 2019 on federal charges of sex-trafficking of minors, but after he had served a jail sentence following conviction in 2008 for other sex offences.
Mr Gates said: “It was a huge mistake to spend time with him, to give him the credibility of being there.”
US media have said Melinda French Gates was furious at his relationship with Epstein and wanted it to end.
Speaking of his ex-wife, Bill Gates said she was “a great person, and that partnership that we had coming to an end is a source of great personal sadness”.
Gates came to prominence with Microsoft, a company that now updates your computer and collects information from it. Microsoft also “protects” you from computer viruses.
Bill Gates then decided that “protecting people from a virus was a good move and so moved his operation out from the cyber world.
Bill Gates is heavily involved in development of new vaccines, as well as ‘forecasting’ international health challenges of tomorrow (such as preparing for epidemics), and works beyond the scope of national oversight and accountability in most cases.
He has spent years involved in the vaccine-manufacturing process, including quality control and clinical evaluation. This understanding has allowed Gates to ‘advise’ vaccine development programs and fund research into new areas of innovation for multiple disease programs:
The billionaire was an early investor in the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), which has now grown a substantial portfolio of public-private international health partnerships that are committed to increasing access to immunisation.
Today, GAVI has grown significantly. The group brings together developing country and donor governments (including Australia), the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, research and technical agencies, civil society and other private philanthropists.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $1.56 billion to the alliance’s 2016-2020 strategic period as of March 2019, and continues to advise the group on key business decisions.
Gates heavy involvement in the vaccine industry, in addition to continuing the eugenicist’s visions of the ‘social’ reformation, was fundamental in framing his positive public perception on the matter.
Considered a ‘hero’ in the fight to develop new technologies against growing diseases, the stage had now been set for Gates to become the new ‘go to’ voice if a pandemic was to ever break out.
And then one did! How convenient!
