Mendip District Council in Somerset has voted unanimously to reject the adoption of the International Definition of Antisemitism (IDA).
The council considered the topic this February but a vote only took place this week: 35 councillors voted against; none for, with seven coping out.
The IDA is a highly contested, politically motivated platform which has little to do with anti-semitism and everything to do with stifling opposition and criticism of the Israeli government’s ruthless anti-Palestinian policies.

The virulent zionist group, Campaign Against Antisemitism, which was heavily involved in drumming up smears based on the IDA against Labour Party socialists, is simply furious with the LibDem council, where even the Greens and Tories were not conned.
The CAA claims that Mendip “is almost unique in having considered adoption of the Definition but ultimately rejected it” yet by its own audit of councils only 28 per cent have been stupid enough to lumber themselves with IDA and even then only a minority included all the highly contentious examples which make the well-being of Israel the priority.
It said: “Rejecting the definition is completely unacceptable.”
