Chris Williamson says he is now “actively discussing the prospects for a new party with key figures in the movement.”
Announcing his change in thinking he said: Recent events should serve as a rude awakening to anyone still hoping the Labour Party could be a vehicle for socialism.
The decision by the Sir Keir Starmer (who is a pillar of the Establishment) to suspend his predecessor who inspired millions, must count as one of the Labour Party’s darkest days.
Starmer’s party isn’t interested in bringing about an irreversible shift in the UK’s balance of wealth and power, nor is it concerned about an ethical foreign policy either.
There is urgent need therefore to press the trade union movement to defund and disaffiliate from the Labour Party, because it prioritises the interests of corporate capitalism over the rights of workers.
The pressure is mounting to establish a new party, and until now my reaction has been that we need to build a grassroots resistance movement first. But Labour’s response to the report by the partisan Equalities and Human Rights Commission, has transformed the political landscape.”
