Saudi Arabia’s ruler has told US president Donald Trump there will be no normalisation deal with Israel without Palestinian statehood.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz spoke with Trump by phone following a historic US-brokered accord last month.
The United Arab Emirates agreed to join Egypt and Jordan in normalising ties with Israel to furious opposition of Palestinians.
King Salman told Trump he wanted to see a fair and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue based on the Arab peace initiative proposed by his kingdom in 2002.
Under that, Arab nations have offered Israel normalised ties in return for a statehood deal with the Palestinians and full Israeli withdrawal from territory captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
But the kingdom will now allow flights from the UAE to Israel across its airspace.
