Ex Leeds united centre half and England player Jack Charlton has died. In his last years he was suffering from dementia. Hardly surprising when you think of the amount of footballs he headed.
Jack was the older of the two famous Charlton brothers who both received world cup winner medals with England in 1966. Jackie was a tough no nonsense defender who was Leeds united’s record appearance maker. He was also famous for taking Ireland to a world cup quarter final as their manager.
Charlton was very much old school working class who early on in life had briefly worked as a miner. He showed solidarity with his class in the 1984/5 strike. He will be missed.
