My name is Alan Davies. I am press and publicity officer for Heywood and Middleton CLP. As I write the Israeli military have been bombing the Gaza strip for the last 10 days in a row.
The Government of Israel says it is in retaliation for some people in Gaza launching balloons at Israel.
Apparently these are incendiary balloons! No deaths have been reported in Israel from these “attacks.”
Gaza is a small space of only around 7 miles wide and 32 miles in length with a population of nearly 2 million people. Half of them are children.
Israel maintains direct external control over Gaza and indirect control over life within Gaza: it controls Gaza’s air and maritime space, and six of Gaza’s seven land crossings. It reserves the right to enter Gaza at will with its military and maintains a no-go buffer zone within the Gaza territory. Gaza is dependent on Israel for its water, electricity, telecommunications, and other utilities
The only power plant in Gaza is scheduled to shut down due to the Israeli blockade, which has cut fuel supplies, exacerbated the power crisis and left Gaza’s nearly two million residents with about four hours of electricity a day.
Gaza can certainly be compared to the Warsaw ghetto in Nazi occupied Poland where up to 460,000 Jews were forced into an area of 1.3 square miles. Fences topped by barbed wire were put up to keep them in and those who tried to escape were shot on sight. We all know what came next. After the ghetto it was the extermination camps.
The maternal side of my family were Jewish. The family name was Aaron. They came from a small village near Krakow. The Labour party will not like what I say but it has to be said: The Government of Israel IS acting like the Nazi party. Not the Nazi party of 1944…yet. They are acting like the Nazi party of 1933. That was when the books started to be burnt. When information is a crime the rest will follow.
